It was conceptualized by the Manila Xiamen Educational Foundation as a nonprofit, non-stock, fully foreign-owned and independent school. Manila Xiamen International School started its operation in 1993 with a permit from the Ministry of Education of China and from the Philippine Department of Education. It is a co-educational day and boarding school with curricular offerings at pre-school, lower school, middle school, and upper school levels. English is the medium of instruction. Non-English speaking students are supported with special English as a Second Language (ESL) program, while Mandarin is taught at every grade and level by Chinese teachers. MXIS has gained acceptance to the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) of world schools, accredited to offer the rigorous two-year Diploma Programme for Grades 11 and 12. The school’s student population comprises over 20 nationalities. Since its inception in 1993, MXIS has graduated over a hundred students; ninety percent of them have enrolled in a 4- to 5-year university courses in different countries.
